Isaac River cumulative impact assessment of mining developments
Two mining giants, BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance and Anglo Coal, engaged Alluvium to investigate the cumulative impacts of mining activity, including subsidence from underground longwall mining on over 100 km of the Isaac River in Central Queensland. The study involved modelling of subsidence voids that may be created in the river bed and their impact on sediment transport, erosion and broader river health processes. The study will be used by the mining companies to manage the possible impacts. State Government agencies are also closely involved and will use the findings to guide approval processes.
