Murray-Goulburn interconnector – environmental business case

Engaged as part of a multi-faceted project team, Alluvium led the assessment of potential environmental impacts from the proposed Murray Goulburn Interconnector (MGI). The MGI (if constructed) would link the Murray and Shepparton irrigation regions by enabling water to be diverted from Yarrawonga Weir on the Murray to the East Goulburn Main south of Shepparton. This would provide greater flexibility for irrigation demands along the Murray and within the Shepparton Irrigation District. Alluvium identified the water-dependent environmental values in different areas of the system. Computer based ‘tools’ were constructed for different parts of the system so that different flow scenarios could be trialled and assessed.
